A ROOM OF OUR OWN

The Rown Club, where women team up

FEBRUARY 2024 - Sixth sense

"The name The Rown comes from an anagram for 'A Room of Our Own', which is Virginia Woolf's famous 'room of our own'."

Gloria Sapienza

The Rown Club is first and foremost a social experiment, one might say. An experiment designed to dispel the annoying myth that women are incapable of working as a team, more attentive to cultivating their own vegetable garden, especially once they reach the top, than to illuminate the path to ensure that others can reach the top.

If women can work as a team, they become invincible If women can work as a team, they become invincible
If women can work as a team, they become invincible If women can work as a team, they become invincible

We talked about it with the president of this private members club, Gloria Sapienza.

“The Rown was born from the belief that if women can work as a team, they become invincible. I have always preferred to share projects, travels, joys with other women: sharing is part of my way of being, and I firmly believe that, if we have the opportunity to create something wonderful together, the satisfaction multiplies. Sharing also means believing in an idea of an extended family, not only among women, but also in the field of the arts. For me, creativity has no distinction, it should not be sectoralized: visual art, fashion, design, are all expressions of creativity. An enlightenment that I had very early when, during my studies in art history and interior design, I realized that I would not be satisfied with dealing only with one or the other field, but that, on the contrary, I was more well-versed in ecological thinking, the one that allows you to have an overview, making my professionalism more similar to that of a “creative supervisor”.»

The Rown is certainly not the first of Gloria’s “utopian” projects who, in fact, has a long list of dreams to her credit, which she is stubbornly working on to turn them into reality.

From the redevelopment of the former Capo Ferro traffic light in Porto Cervo, on which she worked for four years after falling in love with lighthouses to the point of getting married in them, to the design of luxury prefabricated villas, in wood and glass and with greenery capable of blocking carbon dioxide from the outside and producing oxygen inside, a village with a swimming pool and clubhouse,  A microcosm in the heart of a metropolis: just the kind of villa-in-the-city center he dreamed of living in. And then again the Milanese ski slope, currently being studied with the project manager of the 2026 Olympics (who is a Rowner).

In Gloria’s toolbox, in addition to a great vision, also the ability to choose the most suitable team of specialists for each project. In short, it will have been understood, the president and Rowner doc Gloria Sapienza does not let herself be discouraged by anything and for her the word impossible has a completely different meaning than the one commonly understood. Impossible, in fact, just means that someone hasn’t tried it yet.

But it was during the pandemic that this volcanic woman had an epiphany: she looked for companions, fellow adventurers with whom to carry out her projects, kindred spirits who shared the desire to face the world with a creative mind and empathetic nature. The tool to implement this plan is the one that each of us uses for myriads of hours every month: social networks and, in particular, Instagram. It is here that Gloria launched her “message in a bottle” by looking for women who had unique projects, starting “epistolary” conversations and discovering new ideas and above all people who were humanly on the same wavelength as her… and that’s how The Rown Club was born.

But what, exactly, is The Rown Club? Gloria describes her creation as follows: “Every month a member introduces herself and her project: at the center of everything there is first and always the human being, because ours are not events, but encounters. The name The Rown comes from an anagram that stands for “A Room of our own”, i.e. Virginia Woolf’s famous “room of our own”. Basically, it is a moment in which we find ourselves to get away from the world and surround ourselves with beauty and complicity between women. The ultimate goal is to create a circle of ‘friends’ who can develop great creative projects together.” And to dispel false myths, it must be added. So there you have it, welcome to the club!
